On 26-Jan -2008 Republicday was Celebrated in grand,
Respected AC Mr. Vasanth Kumar Hoisted the flag in the presence of Chief Off Mr.
AS Rane in TMC Puttur Office Building.

On
2/7/2007 Mr. Vasanth kumar took in charge as the New Assistant Commissioner
of Puttur Municipality.
New Government Pre
University College has been started at Nallikate, Puttur on Jully 2007.
On 10-04-2007 Mr. A.S. Rane took Incharge as Chief Officer of Puttur
Municipality.

Puttur is one of 57 Karnataka cities
in the Nirmala Nagara - Municipal eGovernance project. On 15th Aug
2005 each of the 57 cities got a comprehensive website as well
as the Public Grievance & Redressal module. Other important modules
to be launched by June 2006 are Property Tax,
Financial Accounting GIS
Mapping, Birth & Death Certification, and Ward
Works. Nirmala Nagara project is a
partnership between the
Urban Development Dept,
eGovernments Foundation
& Survey of India. These computer based systems
coupled with Govt. process re-engineering and GIS digital mapping
will provide transparency and accountability and smoother delivery

The Govt. of Karnataka
awarded the Certificate of appreciation to Puttur
TMC in the year 1986-87 and in 1992-93 for providing
excellent Municipal Services, maintaining Healthy Environment, the best utilization of 18 % reserved Fund
and also for the Social Service activities.
Town
Profile:
Puttur
Town Municipal Council was formed in the year 1973 by upgrading the Town Panchayath. The area covered by the
then TMC was only Puttur Kasaba
village extent
being 11 sq.kms.
Later in the year 1996 the portions of adjacent villages, which were
developing as part of this Town, were merged to form the present
Town Municipality extending the area to 34 sq
km
with 27 councilor
wards.
Puttur is the second
biggest town in the District, situated on Mangalore-Mysore
Highway (Bantwal-Mysore State Highway 88) and is 52 kms away from
Mangalore, the District head quarter. Puttur was the Taluk Head
Quarters to the present Sullia Tq, Belthangady Tq and present Vittal Firka of
Bantwal Tq. After the taluk reorganization Puttur is the
taluk head
quarters with 37 Village Panchayaths covering 68 villages. Even after
the reorganization of Taluks,
Puttur continues to be a center for the economical, educational &
medical services for the surrounding Taluks. The
Southern portion of this Tq. is surrounded by the villages of Kerala
State.
Puttur Town
Municipal area comprises portions of surrounding villages namely
Balnad, Padnoor, Kabaka, Bannur, Chikkamudnoor, Kemminje, Aryapu
villages in addition to the thickly populated Puttur Kasaba, the
original Town area.

Puttur is an
agro based town of the Coastal region surrounded by several hillocks with
lush green forest situated in the belt of Western ghat heavy rain fall.
The Major occupation
of the people is agriculture. The crops grown mainly are
paddy, areca,
coconut, cashew, rubber, cocoa, vanilla, pepper and plantains. In
addition dairy farming, sericulture and
horticulture activities supplement the earnings of the people to
some extent.
Puttur is also a centre for education. There are many educational
institutions imparting education both in English and Kannada Medium.
The Arts and Science First Grade Colleges, Govt. Junior College,
Engineering College, Law College, etc., are some of
the important education institutions.
City
Budget: The annual budget of the TMC for the year 2006-07
is Rs. 434 lakhs . Out of which 131 lakhs is proposed for capital
expenses, Rs. 51 lakhs towards Repairs and Maintenance,
Rs. 45 lakhs towards New works and Rs. 16 lakhs towards the welfare
of SC/ST.
