ಪುತ್ತೂರು ಪುರಸಭೆಯು 1973ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಗರ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ನಿಂದ ಪುರಸಭೆಯಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. 1996ರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಟ್ಟು 11 ಚ.ಕಿ.ಮೀ ನಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ದಿ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ವಿಸ್ತೃತಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕೆಲವು ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳು ಪುರಸಭೆಗೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪುತ್ತೂರು ಪರಸಭೆಯು 36.11 ಚ.ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, 27 ಕೌನ್ಸಿಲರ್ ವಾರ್ಡಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ದ.ಕ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪುತ್ತೂರು 2 ನೇ ಅತೀ ದೊಡ್ಡ ನಗರ ಪ್ರದೇಶವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಮೈಸೂರು ರಾಜ್ಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿಯು ಪುತ್ತೂರು ನಗರದಿಂದ ಹಾದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.
Puttur Town Municipal Council was formed in the year 1973 by upgrading the Town Panchayath. The area covered by the then TMC was only Puttur Kasaba village extended being 11 sq Kms. Later in the year 1996 the portions of adjacent villages , which were developing as part of this town, were merged to form the present Town Municipality extending the area to 36.11 sq Kms with 27 wards.
Puttur is the second biggest town in the district, situated on Mangalore- Mysore Highway (Bantwal-Mysore State Hightway 88) and is 52 kms away from Mangalore, the District head quarter. Puttur was the Taluk Head Quarters to the pesent Sullia tq, Belthangady tq and present Vittal Firka of Bantwal tq. After the taluk recoganization Puttur is the taluk head quarters with 37 village Panchayaths covering 68 villages. Even aftern the reorgnization of taliks, Puttur continues to be a center for the economical, educational & medical services for the surrounding taluks. The Southern portion of the Tq is surrounded by the Villages of Kerala State.
Puttur Town Municipal area comrises portions od Surrounding villages namely Balnad, Padnoor, Kabaka, Bannur, Chikkamudnoor, Kemminje, Aryapu villages in addition to the thickly populated Puttur Kasaba, thre original Town area.
The Govt. of Karnataka awarded the Certificate of appreciation to Puttur TMC in the year 1986-87 and in 1992-93 for providing excellent Municipal Services, maintaining Healthy Environment, the best utilization of 18% reserved Fund and also for the Social services activities.
Puttur is an agro based town of Coastal region surrounded by several hillocks with lush green forest situated in the belt of Western Ghat heavy rain fall. The Major occupation of the people is agriculture. The crops grown mainly are pady, areca, coconut, cashew, rubber, cocoa, vanilla, pepper and plantains. In addition dairy farming, sericulture and horticulture activities supplements the earnings of the people to some extent.

ಗಣಕೀಕರಣ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳು:
ಜನನ –ಮರಣ ಗಣಕೀಕರಣ (Birth and Death): ಪುರಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ 1990ರಿಂದ ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತ ಸಾಲಿನವರೆಗಿನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಗಣಕೀಕರಣಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಪುರಸಭೆಯ ವೆಬ್ ಸೈಟ್ ಮೂಲಕ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ.
ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ದೂರು ನಿವಾರಣಾ ಘಟಕ (Public Grievance Redressal Cell): ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ದೂರು ನಿವಾರಣಾ ಘಟಕವು ವಾರದ 7 ದಿನಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ದಿನದ 24 ಗಂಟೆಗಳು ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಪತ್ರ, ದೂರವಾಣಿ, ಆನ್ ಲೈನ್ ಮೂಲಕ ದೂರುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಬಹುದು. ದೂರವಾಣಿ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ: 08251238000
ಆಸ್ತಿ ತೆರಿಗೆ ಯೋಜನೆ: ಪುರಸಭೆ ಪುತ್ತೂರುನಲ್ಲಿ 27 ವಾರ್ಡುಗಳ ಆಸ್ತಿ ಸರ್ವೇ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಮುಗಿಸಿ, ಗಣಕೀಕರಣಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
