Solid waste statistics

1) Total amount of waste generated within TMC  area = 16 Tons per day on an average.

2) About 95% of total generated is cleared frequently i.e approx. 15 Tons per day.

3) Amount of waste that is  un lifted is about 0.8-1 Tons per day.

Work Schedule

The garbage collection work begins at 7 am in the morning and continues at 11 o'clock. Again it starts at 2 pm in the afternoon and ends at 5 Pm in the evening. All the works are carried out under the close supervision of Sanitary Daffedar and Health Inspector. Environmental Engineer is the over all in charge of the activities, who in turn reports to the Chief Officer.

Disposal of collected garbage :

One sanitary  land fill site is constructed under ADB project ( KUDCEMP) at Nekkila Bannur 6 Km away from municipality office.

The land fill covers 7.15 acres of land. Right now unseggregated waste is dumped in sanitary land fill.

Disposal mechanism :

The unseggregated waste is dumped in sanitary land fill and weekly once or biweekly once soil is spread over the waste and it is compacted by allowing the heavy weight side pack vehicles to move on the soil cowered waste.

For the purpose of spreading the waste and putting soil over the waste a tractor with front end loader vehicle is provided by KUD.

 

Collection, treatment and disposal of hospital wastes :

Currently all the hospital wastes are collected by a private   Ramaky Agency appointed by Indian Medical Association Puttur branch, and   0.8 acres of land is provided for the disposal of hospital wastes near Mottethadka Puttur.

 Municipality is not at all handling the hospital wastes.

Toilet pit cleaning :

For the purpose of toilet pit cleaning a 4000 liter capacity desludging equipment (cess tank) is provided to Puttur Municipality and at a reasonable rate as decided by the council (as mentioned in the following table), the pit cleaning service is provided.

This desludging equipment contains a  vacuum pump which sucks the slurried toilet waste at about - 400 atm pressure and at a specified location it is disposed.
